We have the following transferable Savage M1A1 Thompson Submachine Gun, serial number 707874 available for sale. It was manufactured by Savage Arms in Utica, NY, under contract for the Auto-Ordnance Corporation in Bridgeport, CT sometime in 1944, towards the end of all WWII Thompson production.

This Thompson has been refinished, probably long ago through an arsenal rebuild program, though it does not feature specific arsenal rebuild location stampings. Overall, the finish is very nice, with ordinary wear from use. The top rear of the receiver is marked “U.S. Property.” It served in a law enforcement agency, and was marked “AL 423” on the left side of the receiver. It also has an import mark from Interarms, indicating it was probably imported back into the U.S. in the 1950’s or early 1960’s. The weapon features the later style, protected, triangular ear rear sight, and a fixed firing pin M1A1 bolt. Its buttstock has a reinforcing crossbolt, characteristic of the period of manufacture, and it also has sling swivels added to the left side of the horizontal grip, and the top of the buttstock. The horizontal grip has a small crack in it, and a small sliver missing from the top rear of its right side. The left side of the receiver has a faintly stamped Ordnance wheel marking, as well as an "FJA" inspector stamp, indicating it was inspected under the supervision of Army Inspector of Ordnance Frank J. Atwood of the Rochester Ordnance District during WWII. Such an inspector stamp is the easiest way to quickly identify a Savage M1 or M1A1, since they were not marked with “S” prefixes like the earlier M1928A1 models, and are extremely similar to the M1’s manufactured by Auto-Ordnance in Bridgeport, CT. It also features the Auto-Ordnance acceptance stamp of "GEG" for George E. Goll. The "GEG" stamp appears twice; once on the receiver nose, and once above the magazine well. George E. Goll was the longest serving employee of Auto-Ordnance, beginning as General Thompson's chauffeur, and he ended up becoming the President of the Auto-Ordnance Division of Maguire Industries during WWII.

The weapon comes with a 30-round magazine. This is a very nice M1A1 Thompson that any collector would be proud to own and shoot, and it is in stock and ready to transfer from our Miami location.
