COLT 1921 (AC) THOMPSON

Colt Thompson 9807 Offered for sale is an Auto-Ordnance Model of 1921 (AC) Thompson Submachine Gun, serial number 9807, which was manufactured by Colt’s Patent Firearms Manufacturing Company for Auto-Ordnance Corporation between 2 8 1922 and 2 11 1922.  This is one of the original 15,000 Colt Thompsons, which range in serial number from 41 to 15040.  Colt Thompsons were originally manufactured in 1921A configuration, without a compensator, and were marked “Model of 1921.”  This one is marked in that manner, and had the option of a Cutts Compensator added, which makes it a “1921AC.” This Thompson was originally sold to the Indiana State Police in Indianapolis, Indiana, and is listed in the late Gordon Herigstad’s book, “Colt Thompson Serial Numbers,” where he noted it as a “21AC.”  This Thompson has honest wear from its P.D. service, with many minor scratches and other blemishes on its original finish as a result.  It has a gouge worn on the lower frame, through the lower frame serial number where the detachable buttstock slides off and on the frame.  It also shows signs of a screwdriver used to remove the pivot plate, which is very common among P.D. Thompsons that were treated as law enforcement tools during their service.  The receiver and the lower frame serial numbers match.  The wood on this Thompson is original, and the buttstock features the anchor mark of Remington, who was the subcontractor of the wood for Colt.  This Thompson features patent dates, as well as a “JHB” inspector marking on the right side of the receiver to indicate inspection for Auto-Ordnance by Chief Inspector John H. Barrett. This is a great example of a P.D. Thompson that can now be owned by an individual collector who appreciates its known law enforcement service provenance.  With its original home being with the Indiana State Police, it almost certainly served to deter gangster activity of its era.  This Colt Thompson served “On The Side of Law and Order.” $34,495 As with all DealerNFA, Inc. guns, this item is owned by us, and in stock at our Miami office, where it is available for inspection or eForm transfer to a dealer in your state.
