Here’s what that typically signifies:

• Importer Marking: “T&E Only” was stamped or engraved on the receiver by HK USA to designate that the weapon was intended solely for government/law enforcement agency evaluation and testing.

• Not for Commercial Sale (Originally): These guns were never meant to be sold to civilians through normal import channels, since machine gun imports for civilian use were already tightly restricted by the 1968 GCA and 1986 Hughes Amendment.

• Collectibility: “T&E” marked HKs are scarce and desirable to collectors because they represent genuine factory imports with documented law enforcement or military trial history.

“HK T&E Only” means the MP5 was a factory test & evaluation gun imported by HK for demo/trial purposes with agencies—never intended for commercial sale—but a handful exist today as transferable machine guns depending on how they were registered.
