This West Hurley Thompson machine gun, manufactured in 1980, represents a later iteration of the iconic Thompson submachine gun, also known as the "Tommy Gun." Produced by Auto-Ordnance, which was based in West Hurley, New York, this model was part of a revival of the classic Thompson design for civilian collectors and enthusiasts. These West Hurley Thompsons were built to replicate the classic look and feel of the original models used during World War II, with their distinctive wooden stock, pistol grip, and foregrip, as well as the iconic barrel cooling fins. Chambered in .45 ACP, like the original, the West Hurley Thompson retained the ability to use both stick and drum magazines. Although not made to the same exacting standards as the original wartime models, the West Hurley versions remained popular among collectors due to their historical appeal and the enduring mystique of the Thompson.
