Rare Colt Factory Experimental Marked M16 LMG 5.56mm Transferable Machine Gun

This Chester County Armory listing is for a very rare, factory experimental version of the Colt M16 LMG in 5.56mm. Early creation of this model, and its use at Colt, lead directly to the creation of the LMG's standard production model. This fully transferable machine gun features an X marked serial number, added L.M.G. markings from Colt to a M16 receiver. and operates using an open bolt system, just as later LMG production models did. It also features an early version of the elongated hand guard, a rare, angled style fore grip from a CMG-2 (that was later replaced with a vertical fore grip), and a bipod adapted from an M60 machine gun, instead of the production versions found on later models. The lower receiver is marked Colt Firearms Division, Colt Industries. This extremely rare, experimental version of the Colt LMG is fully transferable.
