Item Description
This Chester County Armory listing is for a fantastic condition, factory-produced Colt M16A1 14.5″ barrel 5.56mm NATO transferable machine gun.
Setup as a Model 653 configuration, this three position SAFE, SEMI, and AUTO marked factory Colt machine gun features a 14.5″ A1 profile barrel with a 1/12 twist, an A1 fixed C H marked upper with a teardrop forward assist, bayonet lug, A1 birdcage flash hider and a two position aluminum stock. The Form 3 paperwork does correctly list the original barrel length as 14.5 inches. The factory serial number of this model (#9546378) places its production by Colt in the late 1970’s to early 1980’s as a commercial sales or export M16A1 model.
Overall, this weapon is in beautiful condition. Mechanically, this model is in excellent overall condition. The original fire control internals note very little wear markings. The sear and disconnector are clean with crisp edges; the hammer notes only minor surface markings, and the BCG displays only minor wear. The gas seals are very strong and solidly intact. The bore is very bright and shiny, and the barrel rifling remains very crisp and clean, with well-defined lands and grooves. The bolt face remains crisp and clean. No dents, dings, gouges, cracks, or malformations of any type of operational or functional concern have been observed in the metalwork, whatsoever.
Cosmetically, this weapon is also in overall wonderful condition. The original external gray finish is consistent and clean. It notes very few handling and use marks, and only very minor surface scratches. The two position retractable stock is in excellent overall condition, with only minor surface markings and limited operational markings in the buffer tube finish. There is some minor degradation of the original white fill of the roll markings at spots (see photos), but again, nothing that is more than cosmetic in nature. Overall, this is an excellent, investment-grade, factory produced Colt M16A1 Carbine.
The current eForm capable Form 3 for this transferable machine lists “Colt” as the manufacturer and “M16” as the model.
