S.W.D. Inc. Russian PP-19 Vityaz / AKS-9 9x19mm NATO Transferable Submachine Gun

This Chester County Armory sale listing is for a unicorn in the NFA Transferable Machine Gun world….an almost all-Russian PP-19 Vityaz 9x19mm select-fire submachine gun that is fully transferable.

This spectacular model was meticulously crafted by famed AK gunsmith Mike Friend of Firing Line in Wyandotte, OK using an extremely-rare, original Russian PP-19 Vityaz parts kit and a NFA transferable,  S.W.D. Inc converted Polytech AKS-223 receiver. This receiver was originally imported into the U.S. by Keng’s Firearm Specialty in Atlanta, GA as a Polytech AKS-223 semi-automatic rifle, and then converted to full-auto and Form 2 registered by S.W.D. Inc., also in Atlanta, GA. The NFA registered receiver and the U.S. manufactured barrel are the only parts of this weapon that were not originally made in Russia by Izhmash / Kalashnikov Concern.

The PP-19 Vityaz was originally designed and produced by Russian small arms company Izhmash in 2004 as a more traditional, box magazine feed version of the PP-19 Bizon. The Bizon is a tubular magazine 9x19mm closed bolt submachine gun based on the venerable AK platform.  Due to the closed bolt, straight blowback design, the gas system utilized on a standard AK rifle has been removed, and replaced with a weighted bolt system that physically appears similar to an AK piston. The Vityaz shares the same receiver dimensions,  trigger group,  and selector controls as the AK-74 rifle. The selector lever is located on the right side of the receiver and has three settings: a fully up, unmarked safe setting that disables the trigger and physically blocks the charging handle; the middle position (marked “АВ”) enables fully automatic fire, and the lowest position (“ОД”) allows the weapon to fire in a semi-automatic mode. The Vityaz also features the same left-side folding stock as the AKS-74.

Mike Friend’s impressive work on this model has replicated the receiver markings exactly as what would be expected on a true Russian weapon, right down to replication of the factory markings. (The registered receiver also retains its legally-required original manufacturer and importation markings, as well). Mechanically, this approximately 800 rounds per minute submachine gun runs flawlessly, just like one would expect an AK machine gun to fire. It has only been fired a limited number of times since its build was completed at Firing Line. The internal mechanisms show very little wear. The bolt face is clean and strong. The bore is bright and shiny with crisp, clean, well-delineated rifling. The bolt assembly itself notes no wear marking whatsoever in the finished bolt.

Cosmetically, this amazing weapon is also in like-new condition, with only limited handling marks noted in the dark matte black finish. The selector lever engagement does note the tell-tale “AK line” from operation, but apart from that, the finish is completely intact on all other areas of the weapon.  This weapon will come with two original 30rd magazines, along with an extremely rare, Russian double magazine clamp.

This unicorn of a transferable machine gun is currently available on an eForm capable Form 3 that lists “Form 2 Registration” as the manufacturer and “AKS223” as the model.
