Item Description

This Chester County Armory listing is for a rare Colt collectible. This is the first serial number production example of the Colt Model 635 9mm SMG fully transferable sub machine gun.

As Colt has often been known to do throughout their history, the first serial number officially produced of this model didn’t start at serial number 1, but production started at serial number 1000. The serial number on this amazing piece of history is HT001000. The HT prefix was used by Colt to differentiate the receivers that would be designated for 9mm SMG full-auto models from the standard M16A2’s being produced at the time. It has been reported that HT was chosen as the official prefix for this model as an homage and thank you to Colt’s lead designer on the 9mm SMG project, Henry “Hank” Tatro.

This specific firearm was original on display in Colt’s archive museum, but wound its way into the private sector via former Colt executive John Keosayian’s personal collection. Initially, the Model 635’s did not have the polymer case deflector/gas block or shortened ejection port doors as seen on this weapon, but this upper was upgraded in-house at Colt before it left their possession, as Colt found that these upgrades significantly increased the reliability of the weapon.

This collector’s dream is in excellent overall condition, and appears to have been fired VERY little, if at all. Mechanically it is in pristine condition, with no wear noted on any of the internal mechanisms. The metalwork displays no cracks, dents, dings, gouges, malformations, etc., of any kind. The bore is bright and shiny, and the rifling is crisp and clean.

Cosmetically, this transferable machine gun is also in like-new condition, with only very minor surface and handling marks in the exterior parkerization (see photos).  This model features the original 10.5″ length barrel and early style M16 upper with no forward assist. It also utilizes the original A1 sights with 0-50m and 50m+ apertures.

The Colt Model 635 was officially offered by Colt starting in 1985, so there were very few transferable versions of this spectacular SMG created by Colt prior to the May 1986 NFA registry cut-off. Not only is this an excellent chance to own a rare, Colt factory produced 9mm SMG, but even more rare and unique to own production number one!

This fully transferable sub machine gun is currently available on a Form 3 for easy transfer.
