Auto-Ordnance M1928AC Thompson # AO134049X N.A.C. With AccesoriesNov. 5, 2021, 3:53 p.m. - Unknown Section -
We have the following unique and transferable Thompson Submachine Gun available for sale. It is what is known as a 1928AC variation, originally manufactured by Auto-Ordnance in Bridgeport, CT, and is serial number AO134049X N.A.C. It was made up from what Auto Ordnance had left over for parts after production of the M1928A1 concluded in 1942. This receiver was originally marked “U.S. Model 1928 A1,” but had the “U.S.” ground off, and the “1” over-stamped with a “C” to denote a compensator, reverting back to earlier commercial designations used by the company. This Thompson did not see military service. Many of these types of Thompsons were purchased by police departments during, or immediately after WWII. Additionally, this Thompson has an “N.A.C.” suffix to its serial number, indicating that it was either (Scenario #1) assembled (manufactured), or (Scenario #2) imported by Numrich Arms Corporation, most likely in the 1950’s. Scenario #1 means that this could be what is known as a “crate gun,” that may have been included with receivers and prototypes that were crated up by Auto-Ordnance, and sold along with the name and other assets of the corporation after World War II. Scenario #2 involves this Thompson being exported, and then being re-imported by Numrich to the U.S., and stamped with their “N.A.C.” suffix.
The weapon appears to have its original finish. It features the later style, protected Lyman rear sight. It has a finned barrel, and a compensator. It has a vertical foregrip, which is probably what it was originally provided with, since this Thompson did not end up being sold to the military, which had standardized on the horizontal foregrip. The trigger frame serial number does not match the receiver, and is serial number A.O. 152956X. The actuator has an “R,” on it, indicating manufacture by Remington. The compensator is a 4th type, the same as those installed on military M1928A1 Thompsons. It has an AOC Blish lock, and a Savage bolt, as well as an AOC grip hanger. The buttstock has about an 1/8” gap around the buttplate, meaning that there is a wood overhang around it, indicating that it was not originally matched to the wood.
This would be a great shooter Thompson for a first time buyer, or a collector piece for someone who wants to add a Model 1928AC, or a NAC variation to their collection. This Thompson is unique in that it has both the “AC” variation, and the “NAC” mark.
The weapon comes with one Taiwanese L-Drum (50 round drum). The Taiwanese drums are much more reliable than West Hurley or currently manufactured Kahr drums. Includes a repo carrying case with brass cleaning rod, drum and 30 round magazine.
