Transferable on a Form 3
This Chester County Armory listing is for a unique version of a commercial Harrington & Richardson M50 Reising .45acp transferable submachine gun with a low, first year production and collectible serial number of 1299, with no letter prefix.
Originally made and registered by H&R in 1941, this transferable Model 50 submachine gun has an interesting feature. Instead of the standard 11″ finned barrel and compensator that are typically seen on most H&R M50 Reisings, this unique model sports a shortened 6.25″ barrel, that has been created to allow the compensator to fit just slightly forward of flush to the wood stock. Often known as “doorbusters,” modifications like this were often seen in use by some police departments to allow for easy door and lock breaching with a subgun. Operating as to allow the stock to basically work as what the firearm world now calls a “stand-off device”. Unfortunately, it is not known who created this particular shortened barrel setup, but the work was most assuredly professionally performed by all appearances. This barrel is noted as being an original 28 fin commercial barrel, of which 25 fins are now visible to the hard stop of the compensator.
Overall, this weapon is in excellent mechanical condition. The bolt system is solid and intact with limited wear noted. The metalwork is smooth with no dents, dings, gouges, or malformations, and only very minor surface scratches. The bore remains bright and shiny with crisp, clean rifling. Cosmetically, the bluing of the receiver notes some minor use and handling marks at points, but nothing more than finish deep.
The wooden stock is solid, with no major cracks or dings, and only minor surface indentations and light scratches noted. The upper stock area on both the left and right side of the rear point of the receiver notes some minor chips where the receiver meets the stock, but both sides are cosmetic in nature only, and do not affect the stability of the stock. The wooden stock color has been nicely oiled and maintained, and retains its beautiful, original matte finish.
Purchase of this early production model will include two factory original H&R 20rd magazines. Both are blued finish, in excellent mechanical condition, circle re-enforced, and are H&R marked. One model has witness holes. One does not. The one with witness holes has some significant bluing wear on the right side where some surface corrosion was removed, but it is fully functional with no structural concerns. The magazine without witness holes is in above-average physical condition with a very stiff spring and only minor handling and use marks noted in the finish. Purchase will also include the adjustable leather military-style rifle sling pictured.
This unique transferable submachine is currently on an eForm-capable Form 3 that lists “Harrington & Richardson” as the manufacturer and “50” as the model. This model is C&R license eligible for transfer.
