Item Description
This Chester County Armory listing is for a very rare, factory experimental version of the Colt M16 LMG in 5.56mm.
Early creation of this model, and its use at Colt, lead directly to the creation of the LMG's standard production model. This fully transferable machine gun features an X marked serial number, added L.M.G. markings from Colt to a M16 receiver. and operates using an open bolt system, just as later LMG production models did. It also features an early version of the elongated handguard, a rare, angled style foregrip from a CMG-2 (that was later replaced with a vertical foregrip), and a bipod adapted from an M60 machine gun, instead of the production versions found on later models. The lower receiver is marked Colt Firearms Division, Colt Industries.
This transferable is in very good overall condition. Mechanincally, it is in excellent condition. Cosmetically, it does note use and handling marks associated with its testing and evaluation by Colt as an experimental model, but nothing that impedes functionality or operational ability.
This extremely rare, original experimental version of the Colt LMG is fully transferable on a Form 3.
